For the past few years, ordinary scales have been criticised for the inability to provide accurate readings. You may be wondering how’s that possible? Well, have you ever noticed your weight fluctuate up and down for an unknown reason? This may be caused by a variety of things, such as muscle inflammation, water retention, and fat and muscle mass. These are things that an ordinary scale cannot pick up which has led to the creation of the FitTrack Scale.

What is Fittrack scale?

FitTrack scale is a smart scale that is connected to your phone through the FitTrack APP where you can have a complete overview of your body composition. It is a smart scale to measure body fat percentage, water percentage, Body mass index (BMI), metabolic age, muscle mass, and your body composition in general. Body composition refers to things like your fat mass, your bones, and organs as well as your muscle mass. All of these factors are contributors to your weight.

The fit track scale helps you monitor your body health, weight loss so you can keep an eye out on your body changes which will also help you stay motivated.

How does FitTrack Scale work?

As you can see in the image above, there are 4 metal electrodes placed strategically on the top of the scale. The power lies in those 4 electrodes as these perform so-called bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). What this means is that the 4 electrodes will send signals, also known as electrical currents, through your feet which travel around the body to detect muscle mass and fat mass. Muscle and fat mass are detected when the signals travel through your body, the signals move through muscle mass a lot easier whereas fat mass obstructs and slows the signals. So, this is how the electrical currents differentiate between muscle mass and fat mass.

FitTrack Scale measures 17 different health components which are trackable through the FitTrack pro APP. Therefore, not only you know how healthy or unhealthy you are at the very start of your fitness journey but also get to track all these factors throughout your journey and watch your body change. This scale enables you to see far more beyond just weight loss, it helps you understand and track your health as it improves.

Instructions on use

  1. Download the FitTrack Pro APP from google play or the app store.
  2. Place the scale on a hard, flat ground
  3. Register on the app with your email address to connect the app to the scale via bluetooth
  4. Step on the scale barefoot and stand still for 10-15 seconds until the bioelectrical impedance takes place
  5. All the measurements should now be visible on the app

FitTrack Scale features

1. Get an accurate reading into your fat mass

This smart scale provides an accurate reading of your fat mass. If you have ever wondered about your body fat % then this is a great way of finding out. As accurate as the electrical currents are, these can be greatly affected by water and food intake. The current may sometimes misread your body composition. So, if the main reason why you’re looking to purchase this scale is to have an accurate reading into your fat %, a better way is through skin calipers. You can find great quality, budget-friendly and effective skin calipers here.

2. Muscle Mass Reading

This is a great feature and I personally find this to be amazing! Why? Whenever you make body changes, whether it is to lose weight or gain muscle mass, you can now track your muscle mass changes with this scale. You may be wondering why this is important but just visualise this, if you’re looking to be toned and you’ve started your weight loss dieting and exercise regime you’ll find that during your caloric restrictions your muscle can be broken down so it can be used to fuel your workouts. This can cause your muscle to shrink and become softer. With the FitTrack Scale, you can track your muscle changes, which means that you can make changes in time before it is too late.

3. Ensures you stay hydrated

In addition to displaying your body composition, it calculated how much water you should be drinking per day. This ensures that based on your body type and the exercise you perform in a day, you will always stay hydrated.

How accurate is FitTrack Scale?

The accuracy of the Fittrack scale is mostly based on the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. In other words, it relies heavily on the electrical currents that are sent through your body detecting your muscle and fat mass. The readings are affected by the environment, ethnicity, exercise, phase of the menstrual cycle, and certain underlying medical conditions.

For instance, one study found that exercise increases cardiac output and vascular perfusion which increases blood flow to the muscle. As a result, muscles become warmer and decrease muscle resistance which results in reduced impedance.

A different study found that dehydration can also influence the readings. The study found that dehydration increases resistance by 40 Ω which can result in a 5kg underestimation. This may be the reason why the Fit track Scale also measures your water needs.

Environmental factors may sound like a strange factor to affect the electrical currents but it is due to the effects of temperature changes on your skin temperature and blood flow. Some studies have found impedance increase with low temperature and a decrease with an increase in skin temperature. For instance, this study observed an 8% change in resistance with an 8.4°C change in skin temperature. This may be caused due to the effects of temperature changes on blood flow.

In addition, ethnicity may also be an unusual factor but if you consider the different minority groups then it is fair to say we are all different. I am not referring to the skin colour of course but rather the way fat is deposited, bone density, limb structure and length. This can also affect the electrical currents based on a variety of studies found in this article.

Summary

The Fit Track Scale is certainly an upgrade to the traditional scales. I personally recommend this scale over the traditional scales as these give you a better reading into your fat and muscle mass. In addition these help you track the changes through your health journey. Getting an all-around scope of your body composition and hydration needs is a great way to track your progress. If you wish to purchase the Fit Track Scales, you can do so through either the Fit track website or on Amazon.
